1. Oocyte (egg) cryopreservation, also known as egg freezing
During egg freezing, eggs that have been removed from a woman’s ovaries are taken and frozen for possible future use. As long as fertilization is not occurring, eggs are ‘preserved’ or kept alive and can be fertilized with sperm in an IVF cycle when the woman is ready to get pregnant.
2. Sperm Cryopreservation or Sperm Freezing
Freezing sperm is the best choice for men who are about to receive cancer treatment or other medical procedures that can affect fertility. Before a woman is ready to have a baby, her doctor may choose to collect and freeze the female partner’s sperm.
3. Embryo Freezing is called Embryo Cryopreservation.
An embryo freezing is a procedure that freezes and preserves fertilized eggs (embryos) for later use. This method relies on both an egg donor and sperm donor, or a couple’s egg and sperm to create embryos that can be frozen and later thawed and then implanted when the couple is ready for pregnancy.
4. Ovarian Tissue Freezing (Ovarian Cryopreservation).
